Innovative Research Fund and Competition
About our Innovative Research Fund
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most under-funded cancers in Canada, yet it's the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the country and the only leading cancer killer with a 5-year survival rate in the single digits at just 8%.
History shows a direct link between an increased investment in cancer research and increased rates of survival. Our Innovative Research Fund and Competition, the first dedicated competition of its kind in Canada, is intended to spur innovative approaches to fighting pancreatic cancer with a focus on prevention, detection, biology and treatment. Applications are encouraged for research of any type including basic science, translational, clinical investigation, education and/or quality improvement, in line with our strategic priorities.
Our grants will offer potential funding of up to $50,000 a year for a maximum of 2-years (based on a peer-review process). This is designed to be seed funding which hopefully can be leveraged for future or concurrent peer-reviewed grants.
PCC can fund up to 2-3 projects in this initial competition depending on the quality of the proposals submitted. The funding for these projects is based on philanthropic donations raised by Pancreatic Cancer Canada.
Peer review panel
Multidisciplinary peer review committee comprised of experts in the pancreatic cancer field from across Canada will review the full applications. The mandatory abstract registration will inform the composition and number of panels required.
