A Champion for Early Detection

On January 31^st, Johanna O'Reilly will participate in the ING Miami Marathon and will run in honour of her boyfriend, Robert's memory ... will run to support early detection research ... will run to make a difference. This event is one of the worlds leading marathons and attracts over 12,000 runners from 50 countries. PANCREATIC CANCER Canada is proud of Johanna's commitment to train and compete in this grueling test of endurance in hopes of raising funds and awareness of pancreatic cancer.

PANCREATIC CANCER Canada is a national voluntary association committed to raising awareness of pancreatic cancer, while supporting innovative research into early detection methods. All of us have first-hand knowledge of the devastating nature of this disease, which is expected to strike more than 250,000 men and women of all ages, including 3,900 Canadians. The leading beneficiary of our fundraising efforts to date has been The Pancreas Cancer Screening Study at Toronto's Princess Margaret Hospital.

Pancreatic cancer is the most lethal form of cancer; the majority of patients diagnosed  (3 out of 4) will die within the first year and at 5 years the survival rate is a dismal 5 %. Despite being the 4th leading cause of cancer death, this disease receives little public recognition and is severly under funded. Until researchers can discover a screening test for this disease, it will remain a silent killer. You can help chage this statistic by supporting our cause.
